Neurology Clinic & EEG

Neurology Clinic & EEG

Run by  pediatric neurologists, this clinic will evaluate, diagnose and treat children (newborns - 18 years old) who suffer from disorders of the nervous system such as epilepsy, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, migraines, movement disorders and cerebral dysfunction due to hypoxic-ischemic injury in addition to disorders of the nervous system secondary to genetic abnormalities. Neurological disorders are structural or biochemical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord, or nerves that connect them. These disorders cause many symptoms such as paralysis, muscle weakness, imbalance, seizures and cognitive delay. Some of these symptoms may be treated with drugs, but rehabilitation also plays a key role in helping affected children reach their full developmental and functional potential. Therefore, having such a clinic in a center like Takween makes provision of rehabilitation services and behavioral therapy easily accessible to our young patients through an integrated team.

This clinic also provides a video-EEG service with a very modern technology to help diagnose epilepsy. The EEG help to know the extent of convulsions, the area of the brain where the seizures are coming from, frequency of seizures and sometimes the response to treatment. In most cases, the duration of the EEG recording does not exceed 30-45 minutes, but sometimes it is difficult to distinguish convulsions from other movements that may resemble them. In these cases, we perform the EEG for long hours during which we can record any suspected brain or clinical activity. After careful analysis of the recording, we can verify whether the seizures are real or not so the doctor can decide if treatment is necessary.
